José Margulis (b. 1970, Caracas, Venezuela) is a multidisciplinary artist who transforms color, light and geometry into immersive optical experiences. Working with corrugated plastic, aluminum, and layered structural elements, he creates sculptural reliefs that seem to shift and vibrate as the viewer moves. Shadows, color interference and rhythmic planes interact to produce a sense of movement that sits between abstraction, architecture, and industrial design.
Margulis is driven by a fascination with how the eye perceives space. Through simple yet precise interventions, he activates complex visual behaviors—inviting viewers to experience his works not as static objects, but as dynamic fields of energy. His recent Dynamic Amplification works deepen this exploration, using layered construction to intensify the sensation of motion, light flow, and dimensional tension.
Influenced by the lineage of Latin American geometric and kinetic art, Margulis builds on this history while giving it a distinctly contemporary pulse through modern materials and a meticulous, engineering-based approach.
His most Recent exhibitions include Portals of Discovery at BLANK SPACE (New York, 2025) and Speaking Volumes at the Erarta Museum of Contemporary Art (St. Petersburg, 2025–2026).
His works have been exhibited in major international art fairs, including Abu Dhabi Art, Art Dubai, Volta Basel, Contemporary Istanbul, Moderne Art Fair Paris, Art Miami, Zona Maco Mexico, KIAF Seoul and many others.
